Tianjin, located in North China, is an important channel for over a dozen provinces and municipalities in northern China for foreign exchanges. It is the largest port city in northern China, the national advanced manufacturing research and development base.Tianjin is considered to be the international shipping hub in northern China and a financial innovation and operation demonstration area as well as a leading area of policy and reform. Up until 2016, Tianjin’s investment in scientific research and experimental development ranked the third in the country. R&D institutions include aerospace, biological medicine, information technology and other fields. In recent years, efforts have been made to improve the science and technology innovation ecosystem in Tianjin. 23 engineering centers, 12 technology business incubators and 10 productivity promotion centers have been newly built. The construction of a national independent innovation demonstration zone has been accelerated, and the city boasts 2 million new registered enterprises and 30 new R&D institutions. 14 companies from Tianjin have been listed on “Top 500 Enterprises in China” in 2017, including Tewoo Group Co., Ltd. (The annual operating revenue was the first in the city in 2016), Tianjin Bohai Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. and Tianjin Zhonghuan Electronic And Information Group Co., Ltd.
