CEO, Vesalius Ventures
Bernard Harris is CEO and Managing Partner of Vesalius Ventures, Inc., a venture capital firm that invests in early to mid stage Healthcare technologies and companies. Prior to Vesalius Ventures, Dr.Harris worked with Vanguard Ventures, a $500 million early-stage venture capital firm focused in life sciences, information technology and telecommunications. In addition, he is also founder of the Harris Foundation.
In addition, Dr. Harris serves as a Director of a number of investment funds, including The Endowment Fund, Salient Absolute Return Fund, Salient MLP & Energy Infrastructure Fund, Salient Midstream & MLP Fund and Salient MF Trust, with over $18 billion in assets under management. He is also Board of Trustees of Babson Capital Global Short Duration High Yield Fund and Babson Capital Funds Trust with over $600m AUM. Previously at NASA for ten years, as well as a veteran astronaut for over eighteen years, Dr. Harris is regarded the “First African American to walk in Space”. He also served as Vice President and Chief Scientist of SPACEHAB, Inc, and Vice President of Business Development for Space Media, Inc.
Dr. Harris earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Houston, a Master of Medical Science from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Houston and a Doctorate of Medicine from Texas Tech University School of Medicine. He is the author of “Dream Walker: A Journey of Achievement and Inspiration.
