Our Story

Established in December 2013, JITRI is supported by and organized under the Jiangsu provincial government. It is chartered with the crucial role to promote and to support the industrial technology research and commercialization of advanced technologies that may significantly impact the economic development of Jiangsu Province.

JITRI is aimed to be a top industrial technology research center in China that may further have significant influences in the world. It focuses on bridging the gap between fundamental technology research and their commercialization of by taking on industrial technology researches where industries are incapable of, universities are unwilling to, and the government is unable to do so. It further focuses on researches that serve the needs stemming from economic structure transformation and the purposes of industrial innovation and market oriented product development.

So far, JITRI has 38 specialty research institutes and over 6,000 personnel, as well as about 500,000㎡ of operating sites, RMB 2.6 billion (US$ 500 million) of equipment and annual total R&D expenditure of about RMB 1.5 billion (US$ 300 million). There are nearly 1,000 technological outcome transferred and transformed by the various specialized research institutes.  About 260 start-ups have been established, 17 of them have went public or about to go public. JITRI has established 6 provincial industrial technology innovation centers in the fields of nanotechnology, medical equipment, intelligent equipment, laser and optoelectronics, telecommunication and network, environmental-protection equipment, etc.  JITRI has recruited 49 project managers(31-Institute Establishment and 18-Key Project)so far, and attracted nearly 200 world-class researchers and engineers globally.

Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute (JITRI) is a new form of research and development (R&D) organization, which has come with the wave of emerging industries and the transition of the economic structure.  JITRI aims to help industries utilize the state-of –the-art technology to enhance their competitiveness in the market. 

The president manages the overall operation of JITRI under the guidance of JITRI Council, including the management of staff, projects and funding, selection of new research institutes, business coaching and performance assessment for existing institutes, etc.  Each specialized institute under the umbrella of JITRI can be an independent organization or a R&D enterprise.  Specialized institutes research activities will be market-oriented, and the research requirements come from the real-life applications and will be adopted by the enterprises and other organizations for practical applications.
